ASSIGNMENT
Marketing communications, program management, comprehensive master signage planning, wayfinding and signage design
Olympic Countdown Clocks
Jones Worley was commissioned to design and coordinate the installation of two Olympic clocks over the I-75/85 Connector in downtown Atlanta to display days remaining until the Olympic Games to be ready for operation on the 1000th day before the Games (October 1993). With only ten weeks to complete the assignment, Jones Worley aggressively coordinated the design and approvals with public and quasi-public agencies including ACOG. the City of Atlanta, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), and engineering consultants including the timing display vendor and signage manufacturer to meet the deadline.
Olympic Stadia and Sports Arenas
More than 40 local and national design firms invited Jones Worley to be part of their respective teams pursuing Olympic venue contracts. Six of these teams were successfully awarded Olympic venue contracts. As a subcontractor to these six teams,
Jones Worley was responsible for the planning and design of permanent interior and exterior sign systems for the various stadium facilities.
Sign System Standards & Sponsor Recognition
Jones Worley developed sign system appearance standards for use in implementing the thousands of signs at various venues for wayfinding for spectators and other facility users. The firm also researched appropriate materials and techniques and assisted in the procurement of prototypes. Coordinating between ACOG’s creative services staff and Atlanta Centennial Olympic Properties, Jones Worley designed a system of recognition for the corporations supporting the Games. This included venue recognition signs, venue fence coverings and transit bus applications.
Olympic Museum Exhibit
Jones Worley designed and updated an exhibit to represent Atlanta’s Olympic efforts in the Olympic Museum operated by the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland. The design included the existing Centennial Torch logomark,
Atlanta’s distinct skyline, renderings of planned Olympic venues, and the “Quilt of Leaves” design motif and pictograms executed
in carved glass.
