Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority Intermodal Facility
Wayfinding and signage design
Birmingham-Jefferson County’s $32 million new intermodal station brings together Amtrak, local MAX and intercity buses and shuttles in one convenient downtown location. The modern intermodal station features natural light in the interiors of the glass-enclosed building and a wide overhanging roof to protect travelers.
Jones Worley was engaged by Giattina Aycock Architectural Studio to develop a wayfinding and signage program for the two structures that stand on the eastern end of the property: one houses a large waiting area for Amtrak and intercity bus passengers while the other provides space for MAX passengers; parking occupies the western end. The wayfinding planning and signage scope included exterior site and building identification plus interior retail, eateries, offices, restrooms, ticketing, baggage services, and passenger information displays.
